Sharrell Edmond

Sharrell Edmond is a native of Mobile, Al. She is a proud graduate of Auburn University. Sharrell was able to obtain both a B.A. in Spanish and a B.A. in theatre during her time on the plains. She returned to Mobile and began her teaching career with MCPSS where she taught both Spanish and theatre. She later went on to obtain a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership from Alabama A&M University. Currently, she is an assistant principal at Foley High School.
No stranger to the Mobile area community theatre scene, Sharrell has appeared in various productions at both The Joe Jefferson Playhouse and Mobile Theatre Guild in roles such as Lady in Plaid in The Colored Museum, Armelia in Ain't Misbehavin, and lastly as Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act. She made her directorial debut at the Joe Jefferson Playhouse by co-directing Anne and Emmett in collaboration with the Mobile Area Jewish Federation. Lastly, she directed Gee's Bend where she also starred as the title character Sadie, a story connected to the deep history of Alabama. During that time, she also served on The Joe Jefferson Playhouse theatre board as educational and community outreach committee chair.
After participating in NEH Landmarks workshop From Clotilda to Community: The History of Mobile Alabama's Africatown, she created a lesson plan to be shared with theatre educators everywhere titled "Staging a Conversation between Cudjo Lewis and Zora Neale Hurston". She is the current state representative for Alabama on the Southern Regional Leadership team for Arts and Letters with Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. Recently, she has spread her skills to leading workshops, presentations, and webinars. Sharrell presented a workshop titled "Character Swap: Exploring Diversity through Role Play" for the Educational Theater Association at the Alabama Thespian Festival. Led Episode 5 of Amp Up Arts Webinar series titled Advocating from the Inside, a School Leader’s Voice for the Arts. She has also presented at the national NPHC Leadership Conference on the subject of Cultural Legacy: Preserving Our Heritage Through the Arts.
